  1. I just wanted to say thank you and I appreciate seeing someone else taking this on as a “hobby” and living to talk about it. I live just south of Saratoga Springs and am looking into getting equipment this winter and starting my adventure next spring. I look forward to your updates and am especially excited to see how your top bar does. Over-wintering does not seem to be it’s strong suit, but I’m hopeful as it seems a more “natural” way to work with the bees.

    1. Oooh, how exciting for you! What kind of hives will you run? Maybe I’ll see you at one of the SABA (Southern Adirondack Beekeepers Association) meetings? They have good meetings. The next one is Nov 16th 2015. Check out their website at If you go, please say hi. You can ask around for me, BA or Beth Ann – look for my brown curly hair. They’re friendly meetings – everyone will talk bees if you give them the chance! That KTBH made it through the winter and I split it into 3 Kenyan top bar hives and added 2 Warré hives. I went from 3 to 13 colonies – I’m a little addicted to the bees. Now that the bees are slowing down, I gotta get back to this internet stuff. So nice to “meet” you here. Hope to see you at a bee meeting! And good luck getting ready for your bees!!!!!
